Eye Health for 60s
Going for Regular Eye Examination is Important
At this stage in your life, your vision is likely to be changing due to natural ageing process. Your eyes become more susceptible to some eye health problems. Regular eye examination from our optometrist consultants will help you to retain the best possible vision quality. We offer friendly advice and suitable eye ware based on your personal needs. By having consistent eye tests, we are able to help diagnose any eye conditions earlier so that you can go for any treatment needed immediately.
Cataract
One of the most common eye disorder in adults over the age of 60. The lens becomes opaque that leads to blurry vision or even loss of sight if untreated. At the beginning stage, the condition may cause near-sightedness and reduction in perception of blue colors. Most effective way to regain vision is through surgery.
Diabetic Retinopathy
This disorder, caused by diabetes, occurs when the tiny blood vessels in the retina leak or start to swell due to the increase of blood sugar in your body.
This condition happens in both eyes and dims or obliterates your vision temporarily, leaving dark spots on the field of sight. Early diagnosis and treatment can help to prevent loss of vision.
Dry Eyes
The eye has a persistent lack of sufficient lubrication and moisture that leads to slight but consistent irritation to ocular inflammation of the front tissues of the eye.
Retinal Detachment
Diabetes may cause a new blood vessel growth on top or the retina that may develop into scar tissues, pulling the retina away from the back of the eye. This may lead to blindness if you do not treat it immediately.
Floaters
Harmless clumps of gel or cells inside the vitreous, the clear jelly-like fluid that fills the inside of your eye, which appear as tiny 'spots' or clouds moving in your field of vision. They will disappear without worry. Do go for a check up if they persist as it may be a sign of other eye health conditions.
Glaucoma
This eye condition is usually caused by the growth of irregular blood vessels on the iris. It is a build-up of fluid within the eye which increases pressure and damages the optic nerve. The process of Glaucoma happens very slowly, often unnoticed until at an advance stage. The loss of vision can never be recovered, therefore early eye health treatment is crucial.
Macular Degeneration
The centre of the retina used for detailed vision (macula) thins and occasionally bleeds leading to distortion of vision, trouble discerning colors and even loss of central vision. Peripheral vision will not be affected. Early treatment is important as central vision loss is serious.
Recommendation
If you are suffering from diabetes, you may be at risk for developing diabetic retinopathy. Therefore, we recommend that you have immediate eye sight tests if you notice any change regarding your eye health.
